What if we nurtured our children’s collective ability to imagine better futures, providing the gift of thinking about the future in a very different way than we do today?
Not through the lens of siloed competition, but as a cooperative weaving that honors many different ways of seeing and being?
Not as the appearance of the latest trends, issues, and objects, but as a generational process that speaks to larger, unfolding realities of deep importance across time and space?
Not as linear and atomized analysis, but as the unique and life-giving realities that stem from relational emergence and thriving?
Not as dissociated events, but as embodied ways of living?
Not as a skill to be downloaded through tools and methods, but as an innate capability that is unlocked from within?
Not an overload of information and data, but as a way of sensing, feeling, intuiting, and experiencing?
Not as traditional foresight and forecasting, but as imaginal anticipation of transformational realities?
Not as mechanical systems to which we must adapt, but as organic ecosystems that want to manifest as wewalk the future together?
Not as efficiently doing, but as generatively becoming?
Not as the “sage on a stage” that relays the future with certainty, but as the “many-eyed whole” that perceives novelty through coherence.
Not as more productivity, but as more empathy, care and love?
Not as a shift in mindsets, but as a new paradigm of heartsets and soulsets?
This is what we affectionately call The Dragonfly Journey – futures thinking as a biological, psychological, and sacred dynamic of all living things that allows us to “dream ourselves awake to fall in love with the future.” (Bonnitta Roy)
In our world of deep awareness and always-on information about our shared polycrisis, how can we empower our children to perceive beautiful and life-giving realities beyond our dominant narrative? How can we instill them with collective hope to take us all on The Dragonfly Journey – into a new story and a new world?
What if we gave our children a new way of seeing the future—through eyes that notice beauty, possibility, and wonder in every corner of the world?
Project Details
In this exciting project, we’re looking for individuals and groups who resonate with empowering our children for a very different way of sensing the future, and who are interested in creating media that can be a catalyst for a new generation entering a new reality.
Instructions
Respond to the following prompt, “Using the tenants of The Dragonfly Journey listed above, explain to a child the lessons you have learned that have shaped how you perceive the future.”
🎁When submitting your entry, opt in for an opportunity to win free tuition to an in-person event in Ashville, NC late April 2026!
Our goal is to create an anthology of submissions as a resource for anyone to use, getting it into the hands of as many children as possible, whether that be through neighborhood associations or formal institutions.
Once completed, TFSX will promote the anthology to educators, librarians, social developers, and other individuals or groups who work with children. It is our belief that a more hopeful, playful, cooperative, collaborative, multi-cultural, empathic, loving, and transformational message to our children will liberate them to dream big, act even bigger, and become a future filled with unlimited possibilities.
